The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they’ve signed C Daniel Kilgore to a three-year contract extension that will keep him under team control through the 2020 season.

“We are really happy to come to an agreement on a contract extension with Dan before free agency,” said 49ers General Manager John Lynch. “He is very much a leader of this team, and his hard work and commitment to our success provide a great example for our young team. When you come across players who love the game like Dan you do your best to keep them in your building.”

Reports had said that the 49ers were discussing an extension with Kilgore during the season and it appears as though the two parties were able to bridge the gap in recent days.

Kilgore, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2011. He has spent all seven years of his NFL career in San Francisco and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent next month.

Kilgore played out the final year of the three year, $5.25 million extension he received back in 2014.

In 2017, Kilgore appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 23 center out of 37 qualifying players.
