Major Changes Could Be Coming For Jaguars Should They Lose In Week 11

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that a “dramatic move could come as soon as this week” for the Jaguars should they lose to the Lions on Sunday.

Rapoport notes that the Jaguars will have their bye in Week 12 so it would afford the team some additional time to move in a new direction should they opt to shake things up.

Several sources tell Rapoport that it “would not be a surprise” if the Jaguars moved on from HC Doug Pederson and GM Trent Baalke.

Rapoport makes it clear that all options are on the table from firing Pederson, moving on from Baalke or a full house-cleaning, depending on the results of this weekend’s game.

“Based on several conversations, while Jaguars staffers are still working and grinding, there is a pall permeating the situation. A doom,” Rapoport writes.

In the event the Jaguars fire Pederson, Rapoport says former Chargers head coach Mike McCoy could serve as the team’s interim head coach.

It’s worth mentioning that Rapoport says the Jaguars are still sticking together in the midst of a disappointing season.

The Jaguars are playing one of the top teams in the league with a backup quarterback, so there’s a pretty good chance we could see some changes next week.

Pederson, 56, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles as a quality control coach in 2009. He worked his way up to QB coach before following Andy Reid to Kansas City and becoming the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator in 2013.

The Eagles hired Pederson as head coach in 2016. They later signed him to an extension through 2022 heading into the 2018 season, only to fire him after 2020.

From there, the Jaguars hired Pederson as their head coach in 2022.

Pederson led the Eagles to a record of 42-37-1 (53.1 percent) over the course of five seasons. This includes a Super Bowl championship in 2017.

In three seasons with the Jaguars, Pederson has led them to a record of 20-24 (45.5 percent), which includes a playoff appearance and a playoff win.
