This year’s group of draft prospects has been said to be limited in regards to the talent at defensive end but one of the more notable names at the position mentioned, Illinois DE Whitney Mercilus, mentioned that a number of teams have shown interest in him.
“Some of the teams I’ve talked with… Bears, Chargers showed interest also,” noted Mercilus, per Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550. “Also the Bills, they showed interest… a lot of interest. Those are just to name a few.”
The Bears are interesting because you could make the case that they have multiple positions that should be addressed before defensive end. As for the Chargers and the Bills, both of the need a solid pass rusher that can be counted on and Mercilus had the most sacks last season with 16 sacks.
Some have referred to him as a bit of a one-year-wonder but there’s no question that he has the ability to get to the quarterback.
