AFC Notes: Bengals, Broncos, Raiders, Ravens

Bengals

Even though they lost to the Ravens and the defense gave up 403 yards of offense, Bengals veteran DE Carlos Dunlap believes things are headed in the right direction.

“This was a great step in the right direction, we just didn’t get the result that we want,” Dunlap said, via the Cincinnati Enquirer. “There’s some positives. It’s clear and evident that we looked like a different defense out there.”

Broncos

• Broncos HC Vance Joseph said they will work out five players on Tuesday after losing G Max Garcia for the season. (Nicki Jhabvala)

Raiders

• Raiders HC Jon Gruden said of RB Doug Martin, who exited in the first half with ankle injury: “I think he’ll be OK.” (Michael Gehlken)
• Gruden added that they will try to get RB DeAndre Washington more involved in final six games.
• According to Gruden, WR Jordy Nelson (knee contusion) ran well this morning and “has a chance” to resume practice this week. (Michael Gehlken)

Ravens

Ravens undrafted RB Gus Edwards had a breakout game in which he totaled 115 yards rushing and a touchdown on 17 carries.

“Gus was North and South, he’s a physical guy. He’s been practicing really well,” Harbaugh said, via BaltimoreRavens.com. “When those young guys start practicing well for weeks after weeks, we want to get them out there. Then he was playing well on special teams, so it kind of gave an indication that he was ready. He sure took the bull by the horns.”

Harbaugh added that he likes the dynamic Edwards brings to their offense, but indicated that they’ll still have a running back-by-committee approach.

“To give us that type of a back is very important,” Harbaugh said. “He gives us that back that we probably didn’t have earlier in the year. We’ve got four different guys who have different styles. I think that’s a plus for us.”

• Ravens QB Lamar Jackson admitted he didn’t think he’d get 27 carries in Sunday’s game: “I didn’t think I would run the ball that much. But whatever it takes to win.”
