AFC Notes: Broncos, Browns, Steelers

Broncos

Mike Klis of 9News reports that the Broncos reached out to retired DE DeMarcus Ware about a part-time coaching role that would have allowed him to work with some of the team’s player including first-round pick Bradley Chubb this offseason.

  • Mike Klis writes that Broncos RB Devontae Booker “figures” to be the first-string running back for the start of offseason workouts and through training camp.
  • However, Klis expects third-round RB Royce Freeman to eventually get his opportunity.

Browns

Olympic gold medal sprinter Tim Montgomery, who helped get Josh Gordon turned around, said he expects Gordon to be a mentor to fourth-round WR Antonio Callaway.

“It’s very ironic that Antonio and Josh Gordon ended up on the same team,” Montgomery told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Now Josh Gordon gets the opportunity to play big brother and I think Josh is going to do a great job of that.”

Montgomery added Gordon will serve as a “big brother” to Callaway.

“Josh always had his big brother looking out for him, and now he can be that mentor and be that guy, and that’s what he needs,” Montgomery said.

Steelers

The Steelers announced Saturday that they’ve added three more tryout players to the list of players taking part in their minicamp on a tryout basis this weekend.

  • The three draft players include WR Jesse Zubik (W&J), S Malik Duncan (St. Francis, Pa.) and S Ross Douglas (Rutgers).
