AFC Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • According to KUSA’s Mike Klis, the Broncos explored a trade for Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater after missing on a deal for Matthew Stafford. He’s told the team continues to monitor multiple options at the position.

  • SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano mentions that while the Broncos, 49ers and Washington were believed to have expressed interest in Darnold this offseason, it’s unclear if those talks ever progressed past the preliminary stage.
  • The NFLPA released its calculations for the performance-based pay benefit that was eliminated in 2020 but will still be paid by teams. Each team split $8.5 million between its players and payments are deferred to 2024.

Raiders

  • The Athletic’s Vic Tafur points out that there are a number of potential options to help the Raiders at safety currently available in free agency, including Kenny Vaccaro, Bradley McDougald, Duron Harmon and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, so the team is in no rush to sign anyone.
  • Former Panthers S Tre Boston is also a free agent and has experience playing for Raiders DC Gus Bradley. However, Tafur says the word is Bradley wasn’t high on Boston’s tackling ability.
  • Though the Raiders initially signed QB Marcus Mariota with the idea he would push starting QB Derek Carr, there is no competition between the two with both set to be back in 2021, per Tafur.
  • Tafur mentions to keep an eye on LB Nicholas Morrow, as he could supplant some of the more higher-paid options on the roster at his position and emerge as a team leader.
  • The NFLPA released its calculations for the performance-based pay benefit that was eliminated in 2020 but will still be paid by teams. Each team split $8.5 million between its players and payments are deferred to 2024.
