AFC Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

Broncos’ rookie OL Quinn Meinerz is becoming a favorite among not only fans but of his teammates in the locker room as well, such as G Dalton Risner.

“Quinn Meinerz, being the rookie, man, I have so much respect for him and his story, and who he is as a person,” Risner said, via BroncosWire.com. “It’s been great to get to know him. I love his work ethic, and I think he’s going to continue to grow this year. So it’s awesome that people are excited about it.”

Meinerz can play both guard and center, but will most likely compete with C Lloyd Cushenberry for the starting job in training camp.

“There’s competition all over the board — I promise you guys it’s not only at the center position,” Risner said. “We’re trying to put the five best guys on the field and 11 on the field for the offense. We’ve been working our tails off. There’s competition everywhere. I think that tells us, and tells you guys, that we’re going to have a great team this year because we have so much great competition. I love both those guys man, they’ve been doing a heck of a job.”

  • Mike Klis reports that the Broncos have nearly 95 percent of their players vaccinated, including HC Vic Fangio and all of his coaching staff.

Chargers

  • Seth Walder reports that the Chargers are hiring Alex Stern as an analyst. Stern was a collegiate finalist at the 2020 Big Data Bowl.

Raiders

Raiders QB Derek Carr openly said he’s looking to recruit Packers WR Davante Adams over to Las Vegas.

“Davante, he’s one of my best friends,” Carr said, via ProFootballTalk. “I’m gonna offer him whatever I gotta offer. I’ll buy him a car, whatever I’ve got to do I’ll offer that man. I know he would fit in great with the receivers we have here. He would fit so well in that room. I’m allowed to say those things. Our organization isn’t, but I’m going to say it. He’s my best friend, I think he’s one of the best — he’s the best receiver in the NFL.”

Carr acknowledged that Adams is focused on being with the Packers, but is hopeful to play Green Bay in Super Bowl 56 and recruit him afterward.

“He’s focused on being a Packer and I know that because I see how he works,” Carr said. “I know how he works and I know how much it means to him. He’s focused on that and I’m focused on trying to get to the Super Bowl, win the Super Bowl, hopefully he’s in it so I can beat his butt too. That’s the plan, then recruit him over to the dark side.”
