AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • The Athletic conducted an exercise with its beat reporters playing the role of GMs for the Broncos, Raiders, Washington and Packers and conducting mock trade discussions for QB Aaron Rodgers. In the exercise, the Packers turned down all three trade offers for Rodgers.
  • The Broncos offered WR Jerry Jeudy, TE Noah Fant, a 2022 first-round pick, and 2023 first and third-round picks. Denver was also willing to throw in a quarterback like Drew Lock or presumably Teddy Bridgewater
  • The Broncos gave Illinois State OT Drew Himmelman $125,000 guaranteed and a $25,000 signing bonus. (Aaron Wilson)
  • The Broncos signed Iowa TE Shaun Beyer to a deal with $110,000 guaranteed and a $15,000 signing bonus. (Wilson)
  • Broncos UDFA LB Andre Mintze received $85,000 in guarantees. (Klis)

Chiefs

  • James Palmer mentions that Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman could emerge as the team’s No. 2 receiver given the team was hopeful he makes a “big jump” in the third year of his career.
  • According to Palmer, the organization also believes that recently signed undrafted Clemson WR Cornell Powell has a latter half of the 2020 season that was “as good as anyone in football.”
  • As for Chiefs’ fifth-round TE Noah Gray, Palmer points out that he has a similar skillset to TE Travis Kelce and they are hopeful Gray could emerge as a suitable spell to Kelce in order to keep the veteran tight end fresh throughout the season.

Raiders

  • The Athletic’s Vic Tafur writes that Raiders UDFA OT Devery Hamilton‘s guarantees of $75,000 indicate the team thinks the 6-9, 310-pound former Duke Blue Devil can push for a backup job at tackle.
  • Las Vegas gave former Oklahoma State WR Dillon Stoner $120,000 guaranteed, including $100,000 of his 2021 base salary. Tafur says Stoner can make a crowded Raiders receiving room as a kick returner.
  • Though DT Darius Stills had draftable grades from many places, Tafur notes he has an uphill battle for a roster spot given how many players the Raiders added at his position this offseason.
  • The Raiders like carrying four tight ends, so Tafur thinks former BYU TE Matt Bushman has a good shot to make the team.
  • While the Raiders are deep at running back, Tafur points out they don’t have a power back quite like Trey Ragas, which could earn him a shot on the practice squad.
