Colts
Colts QB Jacoby Brissett discussed being traded from the Patriots during an appearance on a podcast hosted by Devin and Jason McCourty.
“It was after the last preseason game, and the bad thing was I balled (in that game). I was like, โI know Iโm making the team. Itโs going to be hard for them to cut me.โ I really felt like I played my best game at that point, and I was playing my best football at that time throughout training camp and stuff,โ Brissett said, via PatriotsWire.com. โI think Bill (Belichick) did some shady shit. I think they traded me right before practice and still made me go out there and practice. I just remember I was walking back into the facility from the field, and it just seemed like that was the first time the facility was โ there was just no activity going on. It just seemed silent.โ
Brissett was immediately put on a flight to Indianapolis after being traded and was told that he may be required to play in a game.
โIt was just crazy, man. My body was just frozen. I went and talked to Bill, and I didnโt even hear a word he said. In my head, I was like, I donโt even know what traded means. Is that right now? And then as soon as I walked out the room, they were like, yeah, weโve got to get you on a flight tonight because you might have to play in the game this Sunday. And Iโm like, โWhat?โ I was like, โHell no, I donโt even want to play yet. I donโt know where Iโm going.โ But I just remember you (Devin McCourty) texted me and Slate (Matthew Slater) texted me. He was like, โMan, listen. Youโre about to walk into some crazy times, but youโre built for this, and itโs part of the NFL.โ Honestly, that was my wake-up to the NFL โฆ being traded and then the next week, youโre out there in a game. It was like, โWe donโt care how long youโve been here. Youโd better know how to play.’โ
Texans
- Ian Rapoport says he has a hard time relating the record contract signed by Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes to Deshaun Watson‘s situation with the Texans.
- Rapoport mentions Watson is likely seeking a short-term contract that will allow him to maximize his value sooner than committing to a 10-year contract.
Titans
- Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap notes that while the Titans and RB Derrick Henry have had discussions, nothing seems to be getting done which would be the best outcome for the Titans.
- Fitzgerald adds that because Henry has already signed his tender, the Titans should be in no hurry to do a deal unless it is on their terms.
- He mentions that Henry will likely get a deal for $13 million per season, despite his notion that paying any running back more than $10 million per year is risky.
- ESPN’s Turron Davenport writes that re-signing Henry offers the team more pros than cons, citing his ability to handle a large workload and his critical role in the Titans offense.
