AFC Notes: Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, Jacoby Brissett, Bills, Dolphins, Patriots

Bills

Bills QB Josh Allen had high praise of his receivers like Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, and Khalil Shakir for being unselfish players who aren’t interested in padding their stats.

โ€œItโ€™s a fun and wonderful thing when you got a bunch of guys that donโ€™t care about the stats, they donโ€™t care about the touchdowns,โ€ Allen said, via TexansWire. โ€œAnd again, I think, throughout practice, weโ€™ve just had this mindset of, โ€˜Hey, letโ€™s just do things the right way, and find ways to win football games,โ€™ and thatโ€™s what weโ€™re doing right now.โ€

  • Bills HC Sean McDermott said they’ve already ruled out CB Taron Johnson (forearm) and LB Terrel Bernard (pectoral) for Week 4 against the Ravens: โ€œBoth are improving and they’ll do a little bit more this week, but they will not make it back this game.โ€ (Chris Brown)
  • Johnson said he suffered a fracture in his forearm in Week 1 and hopes to be back for Week 5 against the Texans. (Joe Buscaglia)
  • McDermott said sixth-round OT Tylan Grable is expected to miss time with a core muscle injury. (Brown)

Dolphins

  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano are doubtful the Dolphins trade for a quarterback to start the rest of the season, as all signs are that QB Tua Tagovailoa wants to play again this season even if it’s not clear when he’ll be back.
  • Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel called QB Skylar Thompson day to day with a chest injury and added they are looking over all quarterback options.
  • The decision on the quarterback will come sooner than the team would like so they can give the starter, either Thompson, Tyler Huntley or Tim Boyle, enough time to prepare for Week 4, per McDaniel. (Marcel Louis-Jacques)
  • McDaniel announced Tagovailoa will meet with outside neurologists this week: “The plan hasnโ€™t changed. Itโ€™s been executed. Thatโ€™s where it stands. I donโ€™t know reports, who sources are, but people should talk to me. Iโ€™ve got the real information.” (Cameron Wolfe)
  • Miami is optimistic WR Odell Beckham Jr. will be able to return to practice after Week 4 and McDaniel said he’s had no setbacks. (Wolfe)

Patriots

  • Patriots HC Jerod Mayo has been straightforward with the offensive line after a tough showing against the Jets: “This isn’t good enough.” (Chad Graff)
  • Mayo expects G Sidy Sow to return to practice Monday which could allow him to start in Week 4. (Graff)
  • Mayo also mentioned WR Kendrick Bourne “looks good in his routes” while he aims to return to game action. (Graff)
  • At the QB position, Mayo committed to Jacoby Brissett: “Right now, Jacoby’s still our starting quarterback.” (Doug Kyed)
