AFC Notes: Mekhi Becton, Bo Nix, Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

Broncos HC Sean Payton discussed what he called at the end of the season a “predisposed” ankle injury regarding QB Bo Nix.

I’m not going to get into the injury,” Payton said, via Broncos Wire. “What I meant [by] predisposed, there was a slight [pre-existing fracture]. He’s not [predisposed] and there weren’t multiple [surgeries].

Payton added that he was surprised that DC Vance Joseph didn’t get a head coaching position this cycle and said that there are multiple teams that “can’t get out of their own way.

There are 32 of these teams that are owned individually,” Payton said. Everyone is different. And yet, a lot of them have trouble getting out of their own way.

Payton also put pressure on ownership to re-sign GM George Paton to a long-term contract and wants him to remain in Denver.

It’s overdue,” Payton said. “I say that respectfully to the process, but he and I have a great working relationship. So my job wouldn’t be as fun or as exciting if he wasn’t a part of it. That should be something that gets handled quickly.

Paton said the team will look to sign both LB Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad to contract extensions this offseason.

We’d love to have them back, regardless of what’s in the draft,” Paton said. “We see those guys as Broncos. If we let those guys leave, what are we doing?
