AFC Notes: Odell Beckham, Davon Godchaux, Mike McDaniel, Dolphins, Patriots

Dolphins

Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Jr. returned to practice this week after starting the season on the PUP list. Miami WR coach Wes Welker was impressed with how Beckham looked when running routes and believed he resembled his old self.

“In some of the routes on air, he looks like the Odell weโ€™ve seen,” Welker said, via the team’s website. “Very excited to get him out there and moving around. All indications are heโ€™s looking really good. We will go through practice and talk about it as a staff and figure out the best-case scenario for our team.”

Dolphins

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel wasn’t surprised to be booed by the home crowd in Monday’s loss to the Titans.

“I guess it didn’t hit me with surprise,” McDaniel said, via NFL.com. “I think people invest and have to go and believe in a team that has, bottom-line, the droughts that this organization has incurred. I don’t take that lightly. So I would be dishonest if I told you that I didn’t expect that.”

McDaniel feels he still has to earn the trust of Miami’s fanbase and has a responsibility to turn things around.

“The worst part about all of that is you have people that I can relate where weeks are ruined with losses and the worst part about it is you don’t have any control,” McDaniel said. “So that’s not a fun place to be in. I know sporting events where I’m rooting for a team and I’m not coaching in it, I get much more angry when there’s failure than when I’m coaching and I can actually problem-solve something. It’s to be expected. This is the big leagues. To feel entitled to blind support, that’s not my cup of tea. I think you have to go to work, problem-solve, and try to fix things as best you can, and I don’t think we’re necessarily owed anything. I think people believe when you give them a reason to believe, and if people jump off the bandwagon…”

Patriots

When appearing on WEEI’s Jones & Keefe, Patriots DT Davon Godchaux feels they have players being “selfish” on their defensive unit when asked about New England’s 1-3 start.

โ€œIโ€™ll be honest, we got guys being kind of selfish,โ€ said Godchaux. โ€œWeโ€™re down, guys want to make plays, I get it. Iโ€™m talking about defense. Everybody has to play as 11, and everybody has to sacrifice to do whatโ€™s best for the team. I know some guys want to make plays when weโ€™re down trying to get back in the game, but weโ€™ve got to keep going as a team and play team defense.โ€
