AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Texans

Colts

  • Colts GM Chris Ballard said they had a lot of offers for their pick at the top of the second round, but ended up staying put and drafting CB Rock Ya-Sin: “He was a player we really liked.” (Andrew Walker)
  • Ballard compared LB Ben Banogu to Jamie Collins and said he’ll play at SAM linebacker. (Joel Erickson)
  • Guaranteed money for Colts UDFA’s includes $4,000 for CB Chris Rayford, $15,000 for TE Hale Hentges, and $3,500 for S Jamal Peters. (Erickson)

Jaguars

In response to trade rumors surrounding Jaguars LB Telvin Smith, EVP Tom Coughlin said, “What reports? Not that I know of.”

“Telvin Smith is a linebacker on our football team,” Coughlin continued via John Oehser. “We fully expect him to be here. That’s all there is to it. If you know something else, tell me.” 

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell, though, struck a slightly different tone. 

“We’ll see,” he said via Oehser. “I don’t want to get into hypotheticals.”

Texans

  • The Texans gave UDFA WR Johnnie Dixon a $40,000 base salary and a $10,000 signing bonus. (Aaron Wilson)
  • Houston has moved on fro national scout Frantzy Jourdain. (Wilson)
