AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Titans

Colts

Colts QB Andrew Luck says he isn’t dealing with any physical issues and believes he can “make all the throws.”

“I know I’m at a level where I can make all the throws, and I feel confident I’m going out there with my full arsenal. I don’t think there’s anything physically holding me back,” Luck said, via the Indianapolis Star. “The [deep passing game] can get better. It can definitely get better. We could probably look back and say if we had a couple more chunks in the first few games, maybe that would swing the tide in a way. But that’s probably the truth of looking back at any game. Hindsight is 20-20. So we’ll work on it. I’ll work on it. Guys up front, too. Wide outs will make sure when those opportunities do present themselves, that we’re making the plays.

Jaguars

  • Daniel Pepper reports that Jaguars K Josh Lambo did not practice on Thursday due to hip soreness, but he’s still expected to play in Week 4.

Texans

Texans DE J.J. Watt mentioned that things are “coming back little by little” as he tries to return to his All-Pro form.

“I think it’s coming back little by little,” Watt said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I think last game it started to show up on the stat line more maybe than it did the first couple games, but I think it’s still a work in progress. I still have a lot to improve on and get better at. I’m by no means where I want to be yet, but we’re getting there.”

Titans

Titans GM Jon Robinson announced that they’ve officially released WR Rishard Matthews on Thursday after a trade never surfaced.

He reached out to me Monday and asked to be released or traded,” Robinson said, via TitansOnline.com. “We explored the trade option with several teams, and I would say that market never really manifested itself to get a deal.

“He missed a lot of time with injuries, and was hampered in training camp,” Robinson added. “I thought he was coming back. He was working hard in practice, and was even running in scout team when we had some guys down. He was practicing hard. I was looking forward to him getting back into kind of what we have seen from him the last couple of years on the field.

“He just felt that wasn’t happening.”

  • When asked about the possibility of signing WR Dez Bryant, Robinson said they are looking at all players to see who fit in on their football team. (Turron Davenport)
