AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

  • New Broncos RB Melvin Gordon said of playing with Phillip Lindsay: “He’s a great back. I watched him up close, in person, and these past few days I’ve been watching film on him as well. … I think we could be a great one-two punch.” (Nicki Jhabvala)
  • Gordon was asked if he regretted holding out last year and whether he would change anything if given the chance: “I probably would come back, more so because of my legacy and what I’m trying to do as a player and the mark I’m trying to leave.” (Nicki Jhabvala)
  • Mike Klis says that the increasing demand for athletic quarterbacks boosted the value for new Broncos backup QB Jeff Driskel.

Chargers

  • Aaron Wilson reports that LB Nick Vigil‘s one-year, $1.187 million contract with the Chargers includes $300,000 guaranteed with a $137,500 signing bonus. His base salary will be $1.05 million with $162,500 guaranteed.

Raiders

  • Vic Tafur of The Athletic mentions that the Raiders really like Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts, but admits the Marcus Mariota signing allows them to not force the issue in terms of selecting a quarterback. Although, if Hurts is still on the board in round three, Tafur thinks they would draft him.
  • Tafur thinks Florida CB C.J. Henderson would make sense for the Raiders at No. 12, given that he doesn’t see a lot of separation in terms of the top-six receiver prospects.
  • While they could always revisit things later on, Tafur says the Raiders re-signing LB Will Compton and RB DeAndre Washington “looks like a long shot right now.”
  • Regarding the idea of the Raiders trading veteran G Gabe Jackson, Tafur thinks this isn’t something the Raiders plan on doing or even want to do. Tafur explains that the team really likes Jackson and believes they may have the best offensive line unit in the NFL.
  • Aaron Wilson reports that LB Kyle Wilber‘s one-year, $1.187 million deal with the Raiders includes a $137,500 signing bonus and a salary of $1.05 million.
