AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • Mike Klis of 9News reports that the Broncos had discussions with free agent LB Paul Worrilow‘s representatives before he agreed to a deal with the Ravens on Friday.
  • Klis notes that the Broncos’ interest was related to the injury LB Todd Davis is currently dealing with.

Chiefs

Chiefs new DC Steve Spagnuolo says that installing his defensive system has gone “really good” so far.

“I’ve been through this first-year thing a number of times,” Spagnuolo said, via ESPN.com. “Sometimes it’s gone really good, and sometimes it hasn’t gone so good.”

Chiefs GM Brett Veach explained that they were aggressive making additions to the defense this offseason to try to compliment on their highly productive offense.

“It was a little ambitious and aggressive, but that’s the mode we operate in,” Veach said. “We have a great offense, and we want to take advantage of that every year and while they’re all young and healthy and playing at a high level.

“Offense, especially with coach [Andy] Reid, is an execution deal, and it’s timing and precision. It’s reps upon reps upon reps. Not to say that defense isn’t, but defense is more of a mindset and a temperament. So you want to bring in guys that are going to come in and get other players to respond to them.

  • Adam Caplan reports that the Chiefs signed veteran OL Jeff Allen to a one-year, $1.13 million that includes $930,000 fully guaranteed.

Raiders

Following Thursday’s preseason game, Raiders HC Jon Gruden said they could end up keeping as many as five undrafted free agents on their roster this year.

“We might have five undrafted players make the team,” Gruden said. “That’s the story most people are missing. I’m going to talk about that, and not about any more distractions.”
