NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi writes that Texans WR Andre Johnson “does not look like the same player” since he suffered multiple hamstring injuries last season.
“Johnson cannot run, burst or make sharp cuts, which has been the case since his hamstring injury,” writes Lombardi.
Owen Daniels has taken over as the team’s best receiving option. He currently leads the team in all of the major receiving categories. Houston’s ground game has been good enough to make up for their passing attack, but it will be important for Johnson to produce in the coming weeks to prevent opposing team’s from keying in on specific players like Arian Foster and Daniels.
Johnson is currently 31 years old, so it’s not as though things are going to get much easier for him in the coming years. The Texans have him locked up through 2016, so his contract could end up becoming an issue if he’s unable to return to his previous form.
