According to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN, free agent WR Antonio Brown pleaded no contest on Friday to charges related to January incident involving a moving truck driver in which Brown received a felony battery charge.
Wolfe reports that Brown won’t serve any jail time, but gets two years of probation, 100 hours of community service and will need to submit to a mandatory psychological evaluation.
Brown’s attorney, Carson Hancock, tells Wolfe that this was a civil dispute that led to an overcharged case. Hancock believes it would have been settled earlier if not for the ongoing pandemic.
Brown hired a new agent a few months ago but there hasn’t been any serious buzz about him signing with a new team since then.
Brown’s former agent, Drew Rosenhaus, conditionally terminated Brown in January after a slew of incidents finally became too much to handle.
Brown currently faces numerous legal situations as he waits to see if a return to the NFL is possible. Beyond that, Brown is likely to be subject to discipline from the NFL once everything is settled.
Brown, 31, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his five-year, $72.71 million contract when the Steelers traded him to the Raiders back in March.
The Raiders later signed Brown to a new contract worth $50.125 million and includes $30.125 million guaranteed. However, Oakland made the decision to release Brown before the start of the season and he later signed a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the Patriots.
Brown lasted just 11 days in New England.
In 2019, Brown appeared in one game for the Patriots and caught four passes for 56 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Weโll have more regarding Brown as the news is available.
