Yesterday, a report from the Chicago Tribune mentioned that the Bears are also among the teams that have expressed interest in free agent G Larry Warford.
However, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the Bears are not pursuing Warford. Florio says it’s unclear whether Chicago was actually in the mix for Warford at all.
The Texans have reportedly shown some interest in Warford, who is the best available offensive lineman at this point and should have no trouble finding a new opportunity with another team, seeing as he’s been a Pro Bowl selection each of the past three years.
Warford, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. He played out his rookie contract with Detroit before signing a four-year, $34 million deal that included $17 million guaranteed back in 2017.
Warford was owed a $7,650,000 base salary for the 2019 season and had already been paid a $750,000 signing bonus earlier this offseason when the Saints released him.
In 2019, Warford appeared in 15 games for the Saints, making 15 starts for them at right guard. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
We have him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
