Bears Promote QB Matt Barkley To Active Roster, Sign FB Paul Lasike To PS

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday morning that they’ve promoted QB Matt Barkley to their active roster and signed FB Paul Lasike to their practice squad.

The Bears’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. LB John Timu
  2. CB Da’Vante Bausby
  3. WR Daniel Braverman
  4. OL Jason Weaver
  5. TE Ben Braunecker
  6. FB Paul Lasike
  7. OL Cornelius Edison
  8. DB Demontre Hurst
  9. DE Jimmy Staten
  10. LB Ronald Powell

Barkley, 25, is a former fourth-round pick by the Eagles of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent two years with the Eagles before he was traded to the Cardinals in return for a seventh-round pick at the start of last year.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals elected waive Barkley coming out of the preseason a few weeks ago, but he was later signed to the Bears’ practice squad.

In 2013, he recorded 300 passing yards, completing 61.2 percent of his throws, but also accounted for four interceptions without scoring a touchdown.

He has only appeared in four career NFL games since being drafted.

Lasike, 26, wound up signing on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of BYU back in May of last year. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but later signed on to the Bears’ practice squad.

Chicago elected to bring Lasike back on a future/reserve contract this past January.

This season, Lasike has appeared in two games and ran for two yards on a single carry.
