Bears Release OT Matt McCants

The Chicago Bears officially released OT Matt McCants on Monday to make room for TE Zach Miller, who was re-signed to a one-year deal.

McCants, 28, is a former sixth-round pick of the Giants back in 2012. He lasted just over a year in New York before he was waived at the start of the 2013 and signed to the Raiders’ practice squad.

In total, McCants spent over three years in Oakland before he was waived in 2016 and later claimed by the Browns. McCants’ stay in Cleveland was limited to just a few weeks before he was once again claimed off of waivers, this time by the Bears.

The Browns did, however, bring McCants back last year but they later placed him on injured reserve in August and eventually cut him loose with an injury settlement. McCants signed on with the Bears last month.

In 2016, McCants was active for four games and played a total of 38 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
