According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, the Bengals have been in contact with veteran TE Alex Smith regarding a new contract.
- Hobson adds that the Bengals are “monitoring” his rehab from a dislocated wrist right now.
Smith, 32, was Cincinnati’s No. 3 option at tight end last year. He appeared in all 16 games, but only caught three passes for 12 yards while also contributing on special teams.
Pro Football Focus has him rated as a below-average tight end who struggled to be an effective receiver last season.
