Bill Parcells meet with Saints head coach Sean Payton today but there’sย reportedly “nothing imminent” regarding a deal.
Jason La Canfora reports that Parcells could join the team in a “consulting role” at some point.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk mentions that the Saints would run into issues finding a new head coach because the league is not going to allow them to take a coach from another team and they’re still require to comply with the Rooney Rule.
Parcells could join Mickey Loomis as an assistant and help out with the team in a different capacityย but the interim head coach position seems unlikely.

SI.com’s Peter King actually took in a spring training game with the Bill Parcells earlier in the day and was able to ask him about the reports that have mentioned him as being a possible interim head coach for the New Orleans Saints.
“Do I have the bug?” Parcells said. “I don’t think so.”
“Sean Payton and I know each other well, and he has sought my counsel about his situation with the Saints,” mentioned Parcells. “He has told me a little bit about the team, about the situation they’re in, and about the players. But that is it.”
The idea is really interesting but it will have to overcome seriousย obstaclesย before it can be seen as a plausible option for the Saints.
There’s been some talk that Sean Payton could appeal his one-year suspension to which Roger Goodell mentioned that he could actually coach the team while his appeal was under review. Goodell did mention that he would expedite a ruling regarding Payton’s appeal, should he choose to go that route.

Jay Glazer updates the situation by tweeting that Sean Payton is scheduled to meet with Bill Parcells later in the week to discuss the idea him taking over the Saints in 2012 further.
We’ll have more as the information becomes available.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Saints head coach Sean Payton has already reached out to his former mentor Bill Parcells about coaching the Saints this season.
Payton will begin serving his year-long suspension next week and the team has yet to determine who will be the interim head coach. Several reports have suggested thatย offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael is the obvious candidate to take over but it’s certainly interesting to see Parcels’ name come up.
Pacells hasn’t coached since his days in Dallas so there’s guaranteeing that he’ll be interested in taking the job, but it will definitely be a topic that we’ll be following until we get something more definitive regarding his interest in the position.
