ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Bills CB Tre’Davious White will play this season, despite admitting that he was considering opting out before today’s deadline.
White said recently in an interview with reporters that he was considering opting out of the 2020 season, per Marcel Louis-Jacques.
White mentioned that he was concerned about being able to keep his family, including two young children, save while still playing football during a pandemic.
“At the end of the day, no matter what, my family is always going to come first. … My kids are always going to come first,” he said via Vic Carucci.
The Bills exercised White’s fifth-year option this offseason and he’s eligible for what will surely be a major contract extension when the time comes.
White, 25, is a former first-round pick by the Bills in the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $10,091,110 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $1,841,060 in 2020.
In 2019, White appeared in 15 games and recorded 58 total tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 17 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 18 overall cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
We’ll have more on White as the news is available.
