Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the LB Anthony Barr is no longer signing a contract with the Jets and has instead agreed to return to the Vikings.
According to Ian Rapoport, Barr receives a five-year deal worth $67.5 million contract that can be worth up to $77.5M with $33M in guarantees.
- Adam Schefter adds that Barr got cold feet and changed his mind about signing with the Jets before informing the Vikings that he plans to return to Minnesota.
- Tom Pelissero reports that there’s still some work to do on a new deal between the Vikings and Barr, but it’s expected to get done.
- According to Manish Mehta, the Jets were offering more money to Barr, but the Vikings sweetened their offer and his desire to stay in Minnesota made the difference.
No contract can be official until Wednesday, so there’s room for things to change until contracts are officially processed with the NFL. The same goes for reported NFL trades.
Barr, 26, was taken with the No. 9 overall pick by the Vikings back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year $12,743,500 rookie contract and made a base salary of $2,157,750 for the 2017 season.
The Vikings elected to pick up his Barr’s fifth-year option, which paid him around $12.306 million for the 2018 season.
In 2018, Barr appeared in 13 games for the Vikings and recorded 55 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 26 linebacker out of 93 qualifying players.
We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
