Lions Releasing TE Eric Ebron After Not Finding Trade Partner

Adam Schefter reports that the Lions are releasing former first-round TEย Eric Ebron on Wednesday after they were unable to find a trade partner.

The Lions have alreadyย confirmed the news:

Last week,ย Dianna Russini of ESPN reporteds thatย the Lions met with Ebron to discuss his future and informed him that they were open to trading him. However, it appears as though no team was interested in parting with compensation for him.

Ebron, 24, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Lions back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $12.249 million rookie contract and made a base salary of $1,590,337 for the 2017 season.

The Lions elected to pick up his fifth-year option last April, which would have cost them around $8,250,000ย for the 2018 season but was guaranteed only for injury.

According toย OverTheCap.com,ย releasing Ebron will free up $8.25 millionย of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2017, Ebron appeared in all 16 games for the Lions and caught 53 passes for 574 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
