Ian Rapoport has confirmed that Mississippi State DT Jeffery Simmons did, in fact, suffer a torn ACL during a routine workout drill.
According to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, Mississippi State DT Jeffery Simmons suffered a knee injury during training that is believed to be a torn ACL.
Simmons is widely considered to be a first-round prospect and one of the best defensive linemen in the country. Some felt he could end up being a top-10 pick this year, so it will be interesting to see if this ends up impacting when he’s selected.
The NFL declined to invite Simmons to the scouting combine because he didn’t meet the criteria under the NFL’s policy about past issues involving violence. Simmons was arrested back in 2016 after a physical altercation with a woman.
During his three-year college career at Mississippi State, Simmons recorded 159 tackles, 30.5 tackles for a loss, six sacks, five forced fumbles, two recoveries, one defensive touchdown and seven pass defenses over the course of 37 games.
