Broncos DC Ed Donatell said CB Bryce Callahan should be ready for training camp after missing the entire 2019 season with a foot injury, per Ryan O’Halloran.
“On the medical side, he’s ready to go,” Donatell said via Mike Klis. “He’s running full speed.”
The veteran corner was one of Denver’s top free-agent additions a year ago. However, surgery for a broken foot and resulting complications ended up keeping Callahan from taking the field for Denver. He was placed on injured reserve in November.
Callahan restructured his contract earlier this offseason to save Denver about $1.8 million in cap space.
Callahan, 27, wound up signing on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Rice back in 2015. He was waived a few weeks into his rookie season and later signed him to the team’s practice squad before later being called up.
The Bears re-signed him on a one-year deal restricted deal in 2018 before allowing him to leave for Denver in free agency the following year.
In 2018, Callahan appeared in 13 games for the Bears and recorded 45 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 7 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
We’ll have more on Callahan as the news is available.
