According to Mike Klis, Broncos CB Chris Harris was not in attendance for the start of the team’s offseason program today.
While the workouts are voluntary and attendance is not required, it’s notable because Harris has made it known he’d like to have his contract extended, per Troy Renck.
Broncos GM John Elway has previously said he’d discuss extensions, including Harris’, after the draft. The Broncos picked up Harris’ option for 2019 earlier this offseason.
The two sides have had preliminary discussions that reportedly went well. Harris is an ideal fit for HC Vic Fangio‘s scheme and says he wants to retire a Bronco.
Harris, 29, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas back in 2011. He has played all seven years of his NFL career in Denver.
Harris is entering the final year of his five-year, $42.5 million contract that included a $10 million signing bonus and stands to make a base salary of $7.8 million for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Harris appeared in 11 games for the Broncos and recorded 48 tackles, one sack, three interceptions returned for a touchdown and 10 pass defenses.
