Broncos Decline DT Sylvester Williams’ Fifth-Year Option

The Denver Broncos declined to pick up DT Sylvester Williams‘ fifth-year option on Monday, according to Troy Renck.

The fifth-year option would have run the Broncos $6.7 million in 2017, but was guaranteed only for injury and wouldn’t have prevented them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Williams, 27, was taken with the No. 28 overall pick back in 2013. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $7.6 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,013,875 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Williams appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 73 interior defender out of 123 qualifying players.
