Mike Klis reports that Broncos RB Melvin Gordon will not travel with the team to New England for Sunday’s game against the Patriots because of the illness he’s been dealing with.
Denver will turn to Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman to handle the workload in Week 6 while Gordon is sidelined.
Earlier in the week, Gordon was cited for driving under the influence and speeding late Tuesday night.
Gordon could be facing a two or three-game suspension from the NFL. Broncos S Kareem Jackson was suspended two games for a similar incident.
Gordon, 26, is a former first-round pick out of Wisconsin by the Chargers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year $10.669 million rookie contract that was fully guaranteed and made a base salary of $1,889,967 for the 2018 season.
The Chargers picked up Gordon’s fifth-year option last May worth $5,605,000 for the 2019 season. He signed a two-year, $16 million deal in free agency with the Broncos this offseason.
In 2020, Gordon has appeared in four games for the Broncos and rushed for 281 yards on 65 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 45 yards receiving and four total touchdowns.
