Broncos Starting Trevor Siemian In 2nd Preseason Game, Could Announce Starting QB After Game

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak announced Thursday that Trevorย Siemian will start at quarterback for their second preseason game against the 49ers.

Kubiak added that Siemian and Mark Sanchez will likely play a quarter and a half apieceย with first-round QBย Paxton Lunch playing the rest of the game, per Nicki Jhabvala. Siemian and Sanchez shouldย each get time with theย first-team unit, according to Kubiak.

Kubiak also mentioned thatย he would like to pick a Week 1 starter after this game, but he doesn’t know if he will, perย Jhabvala.

Here’s how Sanchez and Siemian performed last week:

  • Siemian: 7 of 12 (58.3 percent), 88 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, 81.2 QB rating.
  • Sanchez: 10 of 13 (76.9 percent), 99 yards, one touchdown, one interception, 91.5 QB rating.

Siemian, 24, was taken in the seventh round of last year’s draft by the Broncos. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $2.33 million contract and stands to make a base salary $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015,ย Siemian appeared in one game for the Broncos, but just took a knee for them late into the game.

We’ll have more regarding the Broncos’ quarterback battle as the news is available.
