According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns are exercising the fifth-year options for DE Myles Garrett and TE David Njoku.
This comes as no surprise for Garrett, as the former No. 1 overall pick has established himself as one of the best young pass rushers in the league despite his suspension late last season.
There had been some speculation Cleveland would decline Njoku’s option, as the Browns spent big in free agency on TE Austin Hooper and drafted TE Harrison Bryant in the fourth round.
However, HC Kevin Stefanski‘s new offense relies heavily on tight ends and it appears they still value Njoku in the offense.
The fifth-year option for Garrett is expected to cost $15.184 million, per Over The Cap, and is guaranteed for injury until the start of the 2021 league year. Njoku’s option will cost roughly $6 million as the average of the 3rd-25th highest-paid at his position.
Garrett, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He just finished the third year of his four-year, $30.4 million fully guaranteed contract.
Garrett stands to make a base salary of $4.61 million over the final year of the agreement.
In 2019, Garrett appeared in 10 games and recorded 29 tackles, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Njoku, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He’s entering the fourth year of his four-year, $9.5 contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.76 million for the 2020 season.
In 2019, Njoku appeared in four games and caught five passes for 41 yards receiving and one touchdown.
