Browns Hoping To Take Fresno State QB Derek Carr With Other First-Round Pick?

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network joined “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday to discuss the NFL Combine and how it could impact this year’s draft.

Interestingly enough, Jeremiah mentioned that he has spoken to sources who believe the Browns would like to take Fresno State QB Derek Carr with their second first-round pick and target a completely different position at No. 4 overall.

It has been reported for several months now that the Browns were focused in on Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel as their quarterback, but Jeremiah mentions that he has spoken to a number of people at the Combine who believe that was just a smoke screen from the previous Browns regime.

Dan Patrick also mentioned that he had been told at the end of last season that Cleveland “loved” Carr as well.

Carr was the best quarterback at this year’s Senior Bowl, but he is largely considered to be a fringe first-round pick.

If they Browns are considering going in a different direction in round one, they will have plenty of good options available to them. They could go after one of the top-three offensive tackles, maybe Sammy Watkins or even an edge rusher like Khalil Mack who Mike Mayock said he would take No. 1 overall.

We have Carr going to the Raiders in the second-round of our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
