Browns Leaning Towards Trading Down From #4 Overall?

The Canton Repository reports that “sources familiar” with Browns GM Tom Heckert have informed them that he’s “leaning toward” trading out of the #4 overall spot.

There’s been a lot of talk about the Vikings wanting to move down from #3, but doing so would require a better than expected market for Ryan Tannehill or Matt Kalil. The fact that the new CBA has created limits to how much a player can be paid based on where they were taken in draft, has only increased the value of draft picks, so trading extra draft choices for a prospect had better be seen as a can’t-miss situation.

With that being said, the Browns would have to hope that a few team’s fall in love with Justin Blackmon or Morris Claiborne. Cleveland reportedly wouldn’t want to end up “dropping too far” down in the first-round. Miami is said to have plenty of interest in Tannehill, but with the Browns out of the picture, Miami could allow him to fall to them at #8, assuming that someone like the Eagles or Chiefs don’t make a move up.

This is the time of year that we start hearing a bunch of speculative rumors/reports regarding a team’s draft plans, but usually these end up being diversion tactics.
