Browns Sign DE John Hughes To A Four-Year, $14.4M Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that theย Browns and DE John Hughes have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension.

  • According toย Rapoport,ย Hughes new contract includesย $14.4 million in new money.
  • Mary Kay Cabot reports that Hughes receivesย  $3.56 million guaranteed and a $2.5 million signing bonus. The agreement can max out at $15 million.
  • The agreement is still contingent upon Hughes passing aย physical.

Hughes, 25, was taken in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft. He had one year remaining on hisย four-year, $2.7 million rookie contractย and would have made a base salary ofย $660,000 for the 2015 season.

Last year, Hughes was limited to appearing in just five games after he sustained a knee injury in October that led to him being placed on short-term injured reserve.
