Browns Signing C J.C. Tretter To Three-Year, $32.5M Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns and C J.C. Tretter have agreed to terms on a three-year, $32.5 million extension that includes more than $23 million guaranteed.

Tretter has been one of the few bright spots for the Browns’ offensive line this season and likely would have been a highly sought after free agent in 2020.

At just under $11 million per year, this deal will leave Tretter as the No. 5 center in the league in terms of new money average, according to OverTheCap.com.

Tretter, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookie contract before agreeing to a three-year, $16.75 million contract that included $6.5 million guaranteed with the Browns in 2017.

Tretter will make a base salary of $5 million for the 2019 season and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2019, Tretter has appeared in eight games for the Browns and started every game for them. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 center out of 36 qualifying players.
