Cam Newton is coming off a season in which he set the rookie passing record by throwing for 4,051 yards and accounting for 39 Panthers touchdowns. The pressure is on the 2011 AP Offensive Rookie Of The Year, but you wouldn’t by watching him in training camp.
Steve Reed, who covers the Panthers for the Associated Press, tweeted, “A lot of folks asking about Cam. Yes, he’s thrown some picks, but also has thrown some great passes. He looks comfortable and confident….”
This is good news if you’re a Panthers fan. With a full offseason with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, it is expected for Newton to show improvements from his break-out season a year ago. If Newton can take the next step in his development as quarterback then he can certainly take the Panthers from being NFC South bottom feeders to a team competing for one of the two wild card spots in the NFC.
