Cardinals DT Robert Nkemdiche (IR) Suffered Torn ACL

Cardinals HC Steve Wilks announced Wednesday that DT Robert Nkemdiche, who was recently placed on injured reserve, suffered a torn ACL and will undergo surgery on Thursday.

Nkemdiche is facing a nine-month rehab, which means he’ll likely miss all of training camp next year and his status for Week 1 could be in question.

Nkemdiche, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $7.6 million contract and set to make base salaries of $1,231,872 and $1,122,808 over the final two years of the agreement.

The Cardinals will have to decide whether to pick up Nkemdiche’s fifth-year option next year.

In 2018, Nkemdiche appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals and recorded 32 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
