Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Cardinalsย front office is preparing in case HC Bruce Arians decides to retire from the NFL after the 2017 season.
As of now, Arians has not informed the team that he is going to retire, but there was talk last year that health concerns could lead to him walking away.
According to La Canfora, Arizona hasย discussed some contingency head-coaching options in the event they find themselves in need of a new head coach.
La Canfora says many close to Arians do not believe he will be back on the sidelines for 2018 and he is “coveted”ย by several media entities. Beyondย that, the Cardinals are drawing closer to a rebuild and have struggled in recent years.
Arians, 65,ย was hired by the Cardinals back in 2013 after he filled in for Colts HC Chuck Pagano while he was fighting cancer and managed to win Coach of the Year. During his five years with the Cardinals, Arians has led them to a record of 40-22-1 (60.9 percent), which includes two playoff appearances and a trip to the NFC Championship game in 2015.
We’ll have more regarding Arians’ future with the Cardinals as the news is available.
