Cardinals new head coach Bruce Arians expects to have as many as fourย assistant coaches focused on improving their offensive line next season, per Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
This comes in contrast toย former head coach Ken Whisenhunt‘s approach that leftย Russ Grimm as the only coach working with the unit. Somers mentions that Grimm’s approach didn’t help some of their young players develop and typically favored veteran players.
There’s no question that Arizona’s offensive line has been absolutely terrible in recent years. Pro Football Focus has them rated as the worst unit in terms of both pass-blocking and run-blocking in 2012.
The good news is that after an extremely poor start to the season, fourth-round pick Bobby Massie started coming towards the end of the season. In fact, Nate Potter also showed some promise as well, but he has plenty to work on in the coming months before he can counted on.
Depending on how the new regime views Massie and Potter, there’s a chance they could target a quarterback or a guard with their first-round pick.
