Cardinals Select Washington State S Jalen Thompson In Round 5

According to Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals selected Washington State S Jalen Thompson in the fifth round of Wednesday’s supplemental draft.

The Cardinals will give up one of their two fifth-round picks in the 2020 draft to select Thompson.

Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline had previously reported some in the Cardinals organization liked Thompson more than their fifth-round pick in the regular draft, S Deionte Thompson.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler compares Thompson to former Lions S Glover Quin. Brugler added Thompson was the best safety to come out of Washington State since former Cardinal Deone Bucannon.

Thompson, 5-10 and 186 pounds, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 and 4.56 seconds. He also hit 33.5 inches in the vertical jump, 10-feet-4-inches in the broad jump and completed 11 reps on the bench press.

Thompson played three seasons at Washington State. In total, he recorded 190 tackles, six interceptions, 17 pass defenses, two forced fumbles and five recoveries over the course of 39 games.
