Adam Schefter, citing league sources, reports that Eagles QB Carson Wentz is expected to be healthy enough to be a full participant in Philadelphia’s offseason program this April if this ends up being something the team is comfortable with.
Wentz suffered a stress fracture in his back last year, but the good news is that he’s been able to participate in a strengthening program.
A source tells Schefter that one theory about his back injury is that it may be tied to his knee injury from the 2017 season, but there is no proof that it led to the stress fracture.
Last week, both executive VP Howie Roseman and HC Doug Pederson made it clear that Wentz is their quarter of the future and the expectation is that they will move on from Nick Foles at some point this offseason.
Wentz, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s entering final year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.
Wentz stands to make a base salary of $4.08 million in 2019. The Eagles have a fifth-year option to pick up on Wentz later this year.
In 2018, Wentz has appeared in 11 games for the Eagles and completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He has also rushed for 93 yards.
We’ll have more regarding Wentz as the news is available.
