Jason Cole of B/R spoke to sources within the Chargers’ organization who indicated that HC Mike McCoy is likely to be fired after the season.
Cole points out that Chargers’ ownership typically waits until after the year is out to make any changes. However, Cole says that a 5-9 season and the fact that the team could relocate to Los Angeles next year make it “almost certain” McCoy will be replaced and the team will begin looking for a new head coach in the coming weeks.
McCoy entered the year on the hot seat after he managed to hang on to his job, despite a number of reports from last year that he could be fired.
McCoy, 52, was hired by the Chargers back in 2013 after he spent four years on the Broncos’ coaching staff. During his time in San Diego, McCoy has led the Chargers to a record of 27-35 (43.5 percent) including one playoff appearance and a playoff victory over the course of four seasons.
We’ll have more regarding McCoy and his future with the team.
