According to Ian Rapoport, it’s fair to say Chargers HC Anthony Lynn‘s status is in doubt as the 2020 season comes to a close.
Lynn has a ton of respect inside the organization for his leadership abilities and the way he guided the Chargers to a 21-11 record in the midst of a relocation his first two seasons.
However, Lynn’s record the past two seasons has left a lot to be desired and there have been a number of bad game management situations that have cost the Chargers games and fall on Lynn’s shoulders.
Rapoport says the hope in the building is that it doesn’t come to a firing and Lynn can turn things around down the stretch this season.
Lynn, 51, played six seasons in the NFL for the Broncos and 49ers before taking his first coaching job in 2000 as the Broncos’ special teams assistant. He had brief stints with the Jaguars, Cowboys, Browns and Jets as their running backs coach before he was hired by the Bills in 2015.
Buffalo promoted Lynn to offensive coordinator after firing Greg Roman and he later took over for Rex Ryan towards the end of the 2016 season. The Chargers later hired him as their head coach in 2017. Earlier this year, they signed him to a one-year extension through 2021.
During his three years with the Chargers, Lynn has led the team to a record of 29-31 (48.3 percent), which includes one playoff appearance.
