Per James Palmer, Chargers HC Anthony Lynn said first-round QB Justin Herbert will remain the team’s starter the rest of the season.
Lynn had been hesitant to make this decision and go away from injured QB Tyrod Taylor but Herbert forced his hand with a few strong performances in the past three starts.
Herbert, 22, was taken with the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft by the Chargers. He signed a four-year, $26,578,754 rookie contract that includes a $16,890,003 signing bonus.
The contract includes a fifth-year for the Chargers to pick up for the 2024 season.
In 2020, Herbert has appeared in three games and completed 72 percent of his pass attempts for 931 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown.
