Chargers QB Philip Rivers In Concussion Protocol

Chargers HC Anthony Lynn announced Monday that QB Philip Rivers is in the concussion protocol.

If Rivers is unable to suit up for their Week 11 game, Kellen Clemens would take over as the team’s starting quarterback.

Cardale Jones is currently the team’s No. 3 quarterback, so he would obviously back up Clemens if Rivers is out.

Rivers, 35, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2004. He was later traded to the Chargers in return for Eli Manning.

Rivers is currently in the third year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $65 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $14 million and $10 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Rivers has appeared in nine games for the Chargers and completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 2,263 yards to go along with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
