Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes that he expects RB Ryan Mathews to return from a groin injury that he suffered during Week 8’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and be ready to play in Thursday’s game against Oakland.
Mathews appeared to be a game-time decision but the team ultimately chose to hold him out rather than risk further injury. Mike Tolbert played great in his absence but isn’t as good at making people miss as Mathews is. San Diego figures to split carries pretty evenly given their production but match up’s will ultimately determine who gets used more.
