Chargers HC Anthony Lynn told reporters after Sunday’s game that TE Sean Culkin tore his Achilles and is out for the season, per Eric Williams.
The Chargers are already dealing with injuries to Hunter Henry and Virgil Green, which means they may need to add some depth at the position next week.
Veteran TE Lance Kendricks figures to see more work in the coming weeks.
For what it’s worth, former Chargers TE Antonio Gates says he’s by no means retired and is still ready to play for any team that gives him a call, whether it’s the Chargers or someone else.
“I’m ready to play if I need to play. If somebody gave me a call, I’m ready. I’m in shape,” Gates said, via TMZ.
Culkin, 26, wound up going undrafted out of Missouri back in 2017. He later signed a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Chargers.
Culkin will make a base salary of $645,000 for the 2019 season before becoming a restricted free agent in 2020.
Entering today’s game, Culkin had appeared in three games.
