During the offseason, the Seattle Seahawks surprised everyone when they decided to trade for San Diego’s third-string quarterback who has very little NFL experience. It seemed as though Seattle’s head coach, Pete Carroll, acquired Charlie Whitehurst to be the heir apparent to Matt Hassellbeck but his recent struggles may indicate that the move was a mistake.
Throughout the preseason, Whitehurst has shown signs that he can play in the NFL but his last two games have brought up more questions than rave reviews.
Carroll commented on Whitehurst struggles by saying, “He’s had a play in there in each game that is really regrettable, you know the turnovers.” The quote comes from Percy Allen of the Seattle Times.
If Whitehurst struggles against the Raiders, it could open the door for Seattle to acquire Carrolls former USC quarterback, Matt Leinart, from Arizona who is rumored to be on the trading block.
